Review: 'Little Shop Of Horrors' At New Wimbledon Theatre

We get up to dance as the sci-fi spoof comes to town

A heady combination of off-beat humour, singing, romance and a bit of dancing is now on offer at New Wimbledon Theatre with Little Shop of Horrors.

In an evening which will appeal to all ages, we watch as the blood-hungry Audrey Two plant - centrepiece of a downtrodden Skid Row flower shop - grows bigger and more demanding.

There are other twists in the plot as flower shop assistant Seymour (played by Sam Lupton) woos his sassy colleague Audrey (played by Stephanie Clift).

Earlier on in the show we also learn that Audrey has a sadistic dentist boyfriend Orin Scrivello (played by Rhydian Roberts).

As Seymour discovers that his hungry plant is desperate for food, you can easily guess who becomes its first victim. As the story unfolds, there are more to come.

My highlight of the show was the performance of the pleading 'Feed Me' song by the bad-tempered Audrey Two, with the movement of the carnivorous plant a delight to see.

There was also some great singing and dancing from the all girl threesome of Crystal, Chiffon and Ronnette. The striking set, which recreated the sci-fi spoof film from the 1950s, added to the kooky atmosphere.

By the end of the show, the packed house was up and dancing. If you want to join them, you'll have to move quickly as the show is only in Wimbledon until Saturday.
