Poor ticket sales lead to cancellation
The Bank Holiday weekend of music and entertainment due to take place in Wimbledon Park from August 26-29 has been cancelled.
Live at Wimbledon Park 2016 was to include the City of London Sinfonia; a fireworks display; The Definitive Rat Pack; Brand New Heavies and a family fun day.
But it has been cancelled due to poor ticket sales. All tickets already purchased will be refunded.
Councillor Najeeb Latif, Conservative Spokesman for Regeneration and Sustainability, said: "After losing over £80,000 on this event last year, at least Merton Council have had the sense to cancel this year's event before incurring further losses. This further confirms the council's lacklustre record in generating commercial revenues from its assets."
