Nominations open for council excellence awards
Now is the chance for you to nominate your local hero as the council opens up nominations for its annual excellence awards.
It is is calling on all those living and working in Merton to nominate a council employee or public servant working for the police, local health service or voluntary sector who they think goes the extra mile for the welfare of the borough.
Nomination forms will be in all the libraries. The deadline for nominations is October 15.
Last year’s winners included the team which looks after Merton’s parks, Merton’s family support team and officers involved in consulting with the local community making sure people are able to voice their opinions about council proposals that could directly affect them. Representatives from the police, voluntary sector and local health service also picked up awards.
Leader of Merton Council Councillor Stephen Alambritis said: "I am passionate about recognising people who, through their work, make this borough a better place to live and work in. As we face financially difficult times, it is even more important for morale that we recognise the excellent work of our employees and promote excellence for the benefit of the whole of Merton.
"We all want a Merton that is clean, safe, offers a high standard of education and health service and looks after those who are most in need. The excellence awards are our chance to nominate public servants who go beyond the call of duty for their borough."
One of last year’s winners was Merton road sweeper and HGV driver Stan Parker. He said: "I know sweeping our streets is a worthwhile job as it makes where we live a better place to be. Being nominated for an award and then winning made me feel really proud of what I do. It's good to have your work recognised."
