Make A Difference In Wimbledon

Volunteers encourage others to help

Local volunteers have been encouraging more people to help them "Make a Difference" to the lives of others in Wimbledon.

Volunteer Centre Merton ran an awareness campaign in Wimbledon's Centre Court Shopping Centre on Saturday (October 29) as part of the national Make A Difference Day.

They were telling shoppers about their local volunteering and encouraging people to sign up to help others. There was also face-painting for youngsters on their special stand.

Philip Barrow (pictured above left), from Volunteer Centre Merton, said after the first couple of hours: "We've already had eight people sign up for volunteering and there will be more by the end of the day".

Volunteer Andrew Dean (pictured right) added: "People have been very positive and always thought they wanted to volunteer, but have never had the approach to do it until now."

As part of Make A Difference Day, a number of local councillors volunteered at projects across Merton. They included Councillor Nick Draper, who will be volunteering for the morning at Deen City Farm in South Wimbledon. Fellow Merton Councillors Brenda Fraser, Mark Allison and Geraldine Stanford also worked with various projects in Mitcham.
