Thinking Of Adopting A Child?

Merton Adoption Information Evening

Merton Council is hosting an adoption information evening at the Civic Centre in Morden on Thursday (June 26), 6pm-8pm.

Tailored for prospective adopters, the information evening will give them the opportunity to learn about the new, shortened adoption assessment process. The faster process will mean that adoptive parents could be matched with a child after a six-month assessment period, when previously, it would have been over 12 months.

They will also have the chance to speak to people who currently adopt and to staff from the council's adoption team. The event will be held in committee rooms B and C, and runs from 6pm-8pm.

Cabinet member for children’s services, Councillor Maxi Martin said: "Around 3,400 children are currently waiting to be adopted in the UK, and all of us in children social care need to make the process of finding them a loving and safe home much quicker. We are looking for caring people who are able to provide unconditional love and support for children in Merton, a place where they can grow into strong and well-rounded adults with a bright future."
