Join The Merton Arts Trail

Event will showcase work of local artists

Artists in Wimbledon will be given a chance to showcase their work with the first Merton Arts Trail, set to take place in October.

Organisers are now appealing for anyone practising in the visual arts - including painters, printmakers, photographers, ceramicists and sculptors - to sign up for the event.

It will take place over two consecutive weekends - October 8-9 and October 15-16 - when artists who live and work in Merton can showcase work in their own studios or local venues.

A catalogue will be produced of all the venues on the trail, giving the opportunity to view unique work in artists' homes and buy directly from them.

It is being organised by Wimbledon-based Wendy Bliss, an artist who paints, takes photographs and produces soft sculpture, and Chrissie Craig, a freelance book editor and screen printer.

They hope it will become as successful as a bi-annual event Artists' Open House event in Brighton.

They are now asking local artists to subscribe to the event.

Wendy, who frames and curates work produced at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability in Putney, added: "We have a growing number of artists who need a venue for their work, who for one reason or another, can't use their homes. We'd also like any local businesses to come forward and offer their space/walls."

The event is also seeking sponsorship. For more information, see the Merton Arts Trail website or email info@mertonartstrail.org.uk.
