Inaugural award ceremony in Wimbledon

The overall winners of the inaugural Merton Best Business Awards, named at a gala dinner at Wimbledon's All England Club, were Raynes Park-based Merco Medical Staffing.

They employ 30 staff at their offices in Raynes Park town centre and are one of the leading medical recruitment agencies.

Diana Sterck, Chief Executive of Merton Chamber of Commerce, said of the winners: "Competition was fierce, with a really high calibre of applications in all the categories.

"I am so pleased to see a company at the leading edge of the fast changing health care sector take the Overall Business of the Year award home."

The Award winner also received a £2,500 prize from Time & Leisure, media partner of the awards.

Earlier, Chair of Merton Chamber of Commerce, Andrew Wakefield, introduced the awards saying that they had been brought home to the borough and that each of the award categories reflected the make up of the borough, in terms of sector, location and stage of business development. He added that the Chamber of Commerce was proud to showcase such talent in the borough.

There were 14 other winners announced on the night (September 25), including Cath Harrop who won in more categories than any other businesss.

Wimbledon mother-of-two Cath, who runs Mum2Mum Market, said: "I am so proud to have won. I know that families love Mum2Mum Market and getting recognition from the business community feels like a great achievement".
