Celebrating Age Festival In Merton

Free local events for the over-50s

It's nearly Celebrating Age Festival time again, this year the annual Festival runs in Merton between September 8-28 and there are more than 100 events happening around the borough and many of them are completely free.

Book your place for the Caribbean evening, go along to the free fitness morning at the Canon's Leisure Centre or try something new in arts and crafts with a workshop led by a local artisan.

Age UK Merton will give you all the help you’ll need to avoid scammers in our multi-organisation ‘Scamming – It’s beyond a joke!’ event, or pop along to MASCOT’s event in the Civic Offices to learn about what’s new in MASCOT technology.

With a wide range of events from exercise classes to dances, pamper days, films,  health and wellbeing events, sing-alongs, discos, harvest suppers and trips out, there’s something for everyone this year.

The festival was launched with fun and dancing on the Wimbledon town centre Piazza (see picture above) on Wednesday (August 18).

Age UK Merton's chief executive, Charmaine Bennett, said: "Merton's Celebrating Age Festival is our most exciting event of the year. We are delighted to be hosting it on behalf of so many local organisations and we are thrilled about this year’s programme. We are sure there is something for everyone. There are just three more weeks left to book and some events are already filling up, so get in contact with us today to book your place."

The new brochure is now available and you can pick one up at Age UK Merton, The Vestry Hall, borough libraries, leisure centres, the Civic Offices and from lots of other local organisations.  The brochure is also available on several websites including MVSC, Age UK and the London Borough of Merton.

The Festival Line telephone number is open and you can call 020 3328 0329 for booking many of the events. Featuring lots of great events for Merton residents over 50, it's again, funded by the London Borough of Merton and organised by Age UK Merton.

If you'd like to volunteer at the festival this year, call Sarah on 020 8648 5792 and let her know what you’d like to do.  Lots of volunteers are needed to help the events run smoothly, and volunteering is a great way to make new friends and get started with a new activity.
