Get Composting In Merton

Council offers compost bin deal

Merton residents can get themselves a bargain compost bin as part of deal being offered to mark this year's International Compost Awareness Week (May 6-12).

To help residents with their composting, Merton council has teamed up with getcomposting.com to provide an offer of home compost bins.

Residents will pay £6 for a 220-litre composter and £9 for a 330-litre bin, with a £5.49 delivery charge per order. There is also a multi-buy offer of buy one, get one half price. Residents can buy up to four subsidised compost bins per household.

Residents interested in buying a council-subsidised compost bin should go to www.merton.getcomposting.com and choose the one suitable for their needs. Or they can ring 0844 571 4444.

Councillor Andrew Judge, cabinet member for environmental sustainability and regeneration, said: "Almost 30 per cent of household waste can be turned into compost. This is why we’re continuing to provide subsidised compost bins to residents. Composting is an excellent way of recycling and it also tackles our growing problem of landfill."
