Top Marks For Merton Pupils


Borough's schools do well in league tables

Merton pupils are top of the class after recent national school league tables show the borough's schools to be above the national average for state schools achieving 5+ A*-C grades including English and Maths.

Figures show 59.1% of secondary school pupils in the borough achieving 5+ A*-C grades including English and Maths. Attainment in English and Maths was also above the national average for state schools, with 59.7% of Merton pupils attaining A*-C in both subjects.

At 70.8%, Merton's pupils also scored above the national average for state schools in expected progress in English during their secondary school years, compared with 68% nationally. In Maths, 78.2% of pupils made expected progress, compared with 68.7% nationally.

Merton Council cabinet member for education Councillor Martin Whelton said: "We are delighted to see our secondary school pupils performing so well and it's great news that the league tables show the borough’s best ever progress in Maths. Congratulations are due to the pupils and teachers who have worked hard to achieve these good results."
