Free Electric Car Club Membership On Offer In Merton

More electric vehicles also being made available in our local streets

Merton residents are being offered a year’s free membership to an electric car club which uses vehicles powered by 100% renewable energy.

They will be among the first in London to drive electric cars for free after Merton Council agreed with Bluecity, London’s first 100% electric point to point car sharing service, to provide residents with a year’s free membership.

People living or working in Merton can subscribe via the website and use the code EARLYBIRD10 to redeem a year’s free membership (usually £5 per month) and 10 hours of free driving (usually 17p per minute – minimum charge of £3.40).

As part of Merton Council’s efforts to improve air quality, the borough has teamed up with Bluecity and charge point provider Source London, to offer more electric vehicles for residents.

Merton already has a network of 21 on-street electric vehicle charge points, including in residential streets. This is expected to grow to 50 over the coming months. Bluecity members will be able to rent or return a vehicle to any of these charge points.

Councillor Martin Whelton, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Environment and Housing for Merton Council, said: “We know, that with the rest of the country, we have to make every effort to ensure the air in Merton is a clean as it can be.

“Expanding our network of electric charging points gives residents and visitors to the borough greater opportunity to travel in a more environmentally-friendly way.”
