Back Charities Offering Coronavirus Help In Wimbledon

Dons Local Action Group is taking your food donations in the town centre

Dons Local Action Group

Merton Giving has launched a Coronavirus fund to provide monetary grants to charities working locally to help older people and other vulnerable groups at risk of Coronavirus.

Donations will be used to help assist volunteers to deliver shopping and other vital support to vulnerable people who are isolated in their homes during this difficult period.

Merton Giving is a charitable initiative between MVSC and Merton Chamber of Commerce, which encourages people and businesses to give money, time or in-kind support, to help local people and make a positive difference to their lives.

You can give online at https://www.justgiving.com/mvsc.

Community initiatives in the area include a food stall set up by the Dons Local Action Group, outside Morrisons on the Wimbledon town centre piazza. It has been open from 11am-5pm each day, taking donations which will be going to local residents in need.

The @Donslocalaction group was specifically set up to provide practical and emotional support to Merton residents during the Coronavirus pandemic. It is working closely with the AFC Wimbledon Foundation and the Old Ruts Sport Club.

By Monday (March 23) it had already delivered food parcels to more than 200 vulnerable households. It has also sent food to frontline NHS workers.

Other food collection points will be set up tomorrow (March 28) at:

The Old Ruts Sports Ground in Coombe Lane from 8am-5pm.

The Old Wimbledonians Ground in Coombe Lane from 8am-5pm.

Sainsburys in Wimbledon town centre from 8am-5pm.

Morrisons in Wimbledon town centre from 11am-5pm.
