Twenty-three schools in Merton each put forward one governor to be honoured for their outstanding work at their school over the last academic year.

The nominees received a pin badge with the Merton crest from the Mayor and were added to her Roll of Honour list of local people who have volunteered their time to help others.

Merton's director of children, schools and families, Yvette Stanley said: "Governors volunteer a lot of time to help raise standards in our schools, agreeing budgets, appointing staff and ensuring the schools objectives are being met. I am delighted to see the hard work they do is recognised in this way."
