Merton Is The Right Place For Good Food

Borough is 'most improved' in London

Merton has been credited as the most improved borough in London for providing good food.

The Good Food for London 2012 report ranks Merton overall as second in the capital, with Islington coming top. But Merton was said to the most improved borough since 2011.

Points were awarded across seven food schemes - for Fairtrade food, Food for Life in schools, Sustainable Fish City (buying fish from sustainable sources), Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards, the Healthier Catering Commitment and Capital Bee (helping London become bee-friendly).

The report provided a league table on their support for the initiatives spearheaded by the seven schemes.

Merton was one of ten of the 33 London boroughs who received praise for their work to support good food.

Cabinet member for environmental sustainability and regeneration, Councillor Andrew Judge, said: "Eating well is a key part of being fit healthy and it's important that we are dedicated to supporting good food initiatives. It is great that Merton is one of the best and most improved boroughs for good food."
