Man Charged After Merton Betting Shop Death


Victim was attacked in Ladbrokes

A man has been charged with the murder of a bookmaker at a Merton betting shop.

Victim Andrew Iacovou, aged 55, from North Cheam, was attacked in the shop in Aberconway Road, Morden, on Saturday May 25.

Officers were called by London Ambulance Service at around 10.30am to reports of a man suffering serious head injuries at the venue. Mr Iacovoa, a father-of-three, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination held at St George's Hospital in Tooting, gave the cause of death as blunt trauma to the head.

Shafique Ahmad Aaraj, aged 21, of no fixed address, was charged with murder today and will appear in front of Camberwell Green magistrates on Saturday (June 1).
