Merton Buildings Open For Scrutiny

Buildings as diverse at Wimbledon Windmill, the Baitul Futuh Mosque, the Buddhapadipa Temple, the Civic Centre in Morden are among those opening their doors during the Open House London weekend.

Architecture enthusiasts can also visit the new school extension at Holy Trinity in Effra Road, Wimbledon, featuring clutter-free learning environments.

Design features also include photosensitive lighting, rain water harvesting and a biomass boiler which provides hot water and central heating.

There will be owner/architect tours of 15 Edge Hill, Wimbledon, a new build rear extension to a Victorian house.

And at 78 Church Road, Wimbledon, there will be a chance to view a refurbishment and modern extension to a 1950s six-bedroom family home.

Visitors can also take a look at St Ann's new school campus, especially designed for 11-19 year old special educational needs students. The Morden school includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy and hydrotherapy facilities as well as a variety of colourful and calming external space, a multi-use games area and a living sedum and wildflower roof.

The Civic Centre roof is also open for people to admire the view across the borough. No booking is required, but visitors are advised to arrive early.  

The annual Open House London weekend takes place over the weekend of September 17/18.
