Merton Council's proposed budget for 2011-12 will be discussed by residents of Merton Park on the eve of the main budget-setting meeting.

The Merton Park Ward Residents' Assocation meeting takes place at Merton Park School in Erridge Road at 8pm on Tuesday (March 1).

Councillor Peter Southgate (left), Chair of Merton's Overview and Scrutiny Commission, is ideally placed to put the proposals in context. He will also share several insights to illustrate the hard choices the Council has faced and the implications for the future.

The borough council has to save £10.219m in 2011-12 and another £6.221m the following year and has already announced a series of cost-cutting proposals across a variety of services. It will set the budget at a meeting on Wednesday (March 2).

Tuesday's MPWRA meeting will also include a Councillors' Question Time and a glimpse of the results of the borough-wide Residents' Survey conducted late last year.
