Merton Police Boss Takes On Charity Cycle Challenge

Theo Paphitis challenges local borough commander

Merton police boss Darren Williams is taking part in a charity cycle challenge which will see him cycling 170 miles through Scotland in two days.

Borough Commander Williams has accepted the challenge handed down by ex-Dragon's Den star Theo Paphitis to raise funds for the Comic Relief charity. The two are pictured below in Wimbledon:

Ryman, which is one of Theo Pahitis's companies, has been supporting Comic Relief for more than four years and have raised over £1.5 million for needy causes both here in the UK and in Africa.

This year the firm, which has its base in Worple Road, Wimbledon, aims to break through the £2 million mark by undertaking the 'Tour de Scotland' Cycle Challenge.

It will see Mr Williams and seven others facing the challenge of visiting 11 Ryman stores on a route passing through St Andrew's, Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy, Falkirk, Edinburgh University, Edinburgh city centre, Livingston, East Kilbride, Clydebank and Glasgow on March 13-14.

He said: "We will cycle up hills that, if all put together, will comprise a climb of more than 7,000 feet - the equivalent of going up Ben Nevis and Snowden. I am very honoured to be invited to take part."
