Merton Police Issue Burglary Warning

Always check identity of callers

Merton Police are warning about a spate of distraction burglaries across the borough.

The criminals have been approaching properties posing as water and gas board officials, and even police officers, to gain access to the premises and then carry out a burglary.

They are particularly targeting the homes of vulnerable people.

A police spokesman said: "Please make sure you double check all identification - always ask for photographic identification and if you are unsure, dial 999.

"Equally, please communicate this message to any friends, neighbours or relatives that you think may be at risk and contact police on 101 if you notice any suspicious behaviour at all. Together, we can beat the criminals - if in doubt, lock them out."
