Wimbledon Park Golf Club Stages Schools' Competition

Winning school will represent Merton in Mini Games

Merton's first ever school golfing competition, organised by the Merton School Sports Partnership, has taken place at Wimbledon Park Golf Club.

Children from years five and six competed at the club, where they played a variety of games at eight stations. The teams had to accumulate the highest overall score in golfing activities such as putting, chipping and driving.

The winning school, St Teresa's RC, Morden, will be representing Merton at the Mini Games, to be held at Crystal Palace sports centre on 2 July.

Wimbledon Park Golf Club supported the event by allowing the Merton School Sport Partnership to use their golf grounds for the event.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Stephen Alambritis, showed his support at the event and said: "Congratulations to all the teams who took part. It’s great to see children taking an interest in golf and the work Merton School Sports Partnership is doing to encourage young people to get involved in sports.

"This event was a huge success and exemplifies the Merton School Sport Partnership’s hard work and determination in pursuing the objective that pupils of Merton schools keep fit and healthy through fun, sporting activities.

"We are trying to introduce kids to a variety of sports including those that they might not have thought of which helps to get them interested in new fun ways to keep fit."
