Armed Forces Covenant For Merton Is Signed

Local organisations will support members of the armed forces

A historic covenant has been signed in Merton marking a partnership between the Armed Forces, Merton Council and local organisations.

Signatories of the Armed Forces Community Covenant included Colonel Mike Kelly, for the Army and the Leader of Merton Council, Councillor Stephen Alambritis.

The ceremony was attended by Mayor or Merton, Councillor Krystal Miller, local councillors, voluntary and business representatives and representatives of the Armed Forces.

The Community Covenant details how the council and local organisations will support members of the Armed Forces and their families, recognising their contribution and sacrifices.

Councillor Alambritis said: "I am pleased that the covenant has now been signed. We are committed to doing all that we can to support the members of the Armed Forces, Veterans and their families to have a good quality of life in the borough."

Colonel Mike Kelly said: "We're all delighted that this agreement has been signed. I hope this partnership will encourage local people to know more about sacrifices and challenges faced by our families. Becoming more a part of the community can only be a good thing."
