Local Schools Mark Their Sporting Success

End-of-year championship at Wimbledon Park

Merton's schools recently took part in the Merton School Sport Partnership's 2013 Primary School Athletics Championships, marking a year of sporting success for the borough.

Twenty-seven schools from across the borough finished up the school year by taking part in the biggest Merton school sporting event of the year at Wimbledon Park track.

Events included 80m, 150m and 600m races, long jump (see right), standing triple jump, shot putt, vortex howler and team relays. The day concluded with a staff relay which gave pupils the opportunity to see their teachers in action.

Merton School Sport Partnership have had many great achievements this year including being used as an exemplar case study in the ASA 2013 School Swimming Census and Bishop Gilpin Primary School in Wimbledon winning the Girls' Football Final in the London Youth Games.

The partnership also marked the end of term and the swimming success of Merton schools by holding the first annual swimming gala at Morden Park Swimming Pools.
