Metro Bank Opens Its New Wimbledon Branch

Two-day long party marked the opening of town centre bank

Metro Bank officially opened its doors to the people of Wimbledon on Friday (October 21).

The Wimbledon store is the bank’s 43rd location across London and the South East, and it celebrated its arrival in SW19 with two days of opening celebrations, which included stilt walkers, performing dogs, popcorn, face painting, balloons and music.

The store was officially opened by Councillor Brenda Fraser, Mayor of Merton.

She said: "I am delighted to welcome Metro Bank to the Wimbledon community and I look forward to them continuing to support our high street, business and local residents over the years to come.”

She cut the ribbon alongside Gillian Fraser, Consort to the Mayor; Councillor David Simpson; Stephen Hammond, Wimbledon MP; Iain Kirkpatrick, Managing Director Retail, Metro Bank; Julie Baker, Local Director, Metro Bank Wimbledon; Martin Smith, Store Manager, Metro Bank Wimbledon and Danny Harmer, Chief People Officer, Metro Bank.

It takes on the Bridge House site vacated by WHSmith, Waterstone’s and Cargo. WHSmith has recently opened a new store in the Centre Court shopping centre and a new Waterstone’s branch will be opening on The Broadway.
