Migrant Flees From Lorry Into Wimbledon Tennis Complex

He is stopped by security staff near centre court

A migrant thought to be fleeing war-torn Syria jumped out of a lorry in Wimbledon and ran into the All England Club tennis complex.

Security staff chased the 26-year-old around the grounds in Church Road until he was stopped near centre court.

Police were called who arrested him and contacted the Home Office, which said his case had been placed in the hands of the UK Border Agency.

The chase took place after when the French truck arrived at the grounds, which will host the annual tennis championships from June 29, and was opened by workers for unloading.

The stowaway jumped past them and made a break for freedom.
