New Nelson Health Centre Gets Set To Open

Ministers have tour of new facility

Health Minister Earl Howe and Communities and Local Government Minister Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon were shown around the new Nelson Health Centre, which is due to open on April 1.

The Ministers met local clinical staff and representatives from Merton CCG and heard examples about how people in Merton, through the use of the Better Care Fund, benefit from joined-up approaches to their treatment.

The centre in Kingston Road, Merton Park, will provide GP services, outpatient appointments, therapy services, services for older people, minor surgery and procedures, x-ray, ultrasound, blood tests and community mental health services all in one place.

Health Minister, Lord Howe, said: "I had a very good visit to the Nelson Health Centre with Communities Minister, Lord Ahmad.

"It was really encouraging to see the energy and enthusiasm of health and care staff and to hear first-hand how they are working together to make changes that will have a real impact on improving services for local people."

Eleanor Brown, Chief Officer of Merton CCG said: "We were delighted that the Nelson Health Centre has been recognised by the Ministers.  It will transform the way that health services are provided for the community.

"Healthcare will be organised around patient needs and delivered closer to home and we are extremely excited about its opening on 1 April 2015."
