Teenager Dies After Mitcham Lorry Accident


Police are appealing for witnesses

A teenage girl has died after an accident involving a lorry near Mitcham Common.

Claudia Jennifer Landa, aged 17, was involved in the accident in Carshalton Road, Mitcham, at 4.20pm on Wednesday April 2.

She was the daugher of Naomi Martin, director of the Pollards Hill-based Commonside Trust.

Claudia, from Hackbridge, was treated by paramedics at the scene and airlifted to hospital.

But Ms Martin confirmed via Twitter that her daughter died on Friday morning (April 4). "Stay smiling my sweetheart", she said. She also published the image on the right.

Her organs were later donated to help eight people.

Tributes were paid to her on Twitter, including this comment from her former sociology teacher at Carshalton High School for Girls: "Such a bright & inspiring young woman will be missed."
