Five Rescued From Morden Flats Blaze


Wimbledon firefighters called to incident

Firefighters from Wimbledon were called to rescue five people – three adults and two children - from a three storey block of flats in Morden today (Friday March 18).

The fire damaged a four-room flat on the ground floor of the block in Martin Way and a staircase between the ground and second floors. All five people were rescued from the building's second floor and treated for smoke inhalation.

Two adults and two children were taken to St George’s Hospital in Tooting where they received further treatment for smoke inhalation, the London Ambulance Service said.

The fire brigade had been called at 7.47am and the fire was under control by 8.27am  Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters from Wimbledon and surrounding fire stations attended the incident. The cause is being investigated.
