A series of online events aims to bring the community together

The MyRaynesPark Festival has had to postpone its tenth year celebrations but is hosting a series of online events seeking to bring the local community together and support local venues in creative ways.

Details of a couple of highlights are below:

Spiritual Practices in the Age of Corona

Abbot Christopher Jamison (pictured above) is President of the English Benedictine Congregation. He appeared in the BBC TV series ‘The Monastery’ and is the author of two books that explore monastic steps for everyday life. He is currently working with www.alonetogether.org.uk offering resources for life during the pandemic.

Dr Roger Bretherton is a Clinical Psychologist, and Associate Professor at the University of Lincoln. He is the writer and presenter of The Character Course, an online programme teaching spiritual practices related to wellbeing.

The discussion will be led by Professor Mark Knight, from the University of Lancaster, using Zoom.

Book Club: Peace Talks by Tim Finch

We are delighted to be hosting a virtual book club with Dr Russell Rook talking to acclaimed author Tim Finch about his second novel 'Peace Talks'.

It tells the story of Edvard Behrens, a senior diplomat highly regarded for his work on international peace negotiations. Honest, honourable, tragic, witty, wise, it's an unforgettable novel of love, loss, and the human longing for peace. It maps the darkest and most tender territories of the human heart.

Tim's first novel – 'The House of Journalists' – was published to great acclaim in 2013 with the New York Times praising it as "evocative and clever".

We'll run the session online with Zoom, which means we can put people into groups. So if you want to join with your regular book club to discuss we can arrange that! Alternatively, you are very welcome to attend on your own.

Due to the current situation, we are advising people to allow extra time for the book to be delivered. From April 16th it is available on Kindle or at various online book stores.

Tim Finch is a leading campaigner and writer on refugee and migrant issues. He formerly worked as a director for the Refugee Council and has founded two charities, including Sponsor Refugees. As well as working as a senior political journalist at the BBC, he has broadcast frequently on Channel 4, Al Jazeera and CNN.
