There were celebrations at a local tennis club as one of their teams picked up a national title.

The Ladies 35+ team from Westside Lawn Tennis Club were crowned national champions in their age group after beating local rivals Queens Club in a keenly contested final played in Dudley.

The team comprising of Olivia Fery, Alex Venter, Sophie Cockell and Caroline Joy, took the match 3-2. After splitting two singles rubbers one a piece, the Westside Ladies showed their strength in the doubles game, taking two of the available three doubles points.

Throughout the competition the ladies had to fight off stiff competition, beating Ealing before securing their place in the final overcoming the current British and European champions; Taunton.

The victory sees the ladies from Westside, which is in Woodhayes Road, Wimbledon, recapture a title they first won in 2013, and they will now go on to represent Great Britain in the European finals set to take place in 2017.
