Local GPs To Move Into New Nelson Health Centre Site

Health service partner is also unveiled

Two local GP practices are to move into the new health centre being built on the former Nelson Hospital site.

The Church Lane Practice in Merton Park and the Cannon Hill Lane Medical Practice in West Wimbledon will relocate to the site, which is due to open in the Spring.

NHS Merton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has also announced that it has appointed St George's Healthcare NHS Trust to provide specialist consultation and diagnostic services in the new centre.

The Nelson Health Centre on Kingston Road will provide a range of services for the local community, bringing care closer to home. It will provide outpatient appointments, therapy services, and minor surgery, x-ray, ultrasound and community mental health services.

Adam Doyle, Director of Commissioning and Planning at the CCG, said: "The Nelson Health Centre will transform the way that health services are provided for the community; care will be organised around patient needs and delivered closer to home. Selecting a partner has been a rigorous and robust process which has involved many of our senior clinicians.

"The quality of services to be delivered at the centre is of the utmost importance and we have put this foremost in selecting St George's Healthcare NHS Trust. We look forward to working with them and are excited to provide first class health care in a 21st century environment to Merton."

Meanwhile patients at a GPs' surgery in Wimbledon Park are campaigning to keep a surgery on the site after it was announced that the current owners are retiring.

The Vineyard Hill Road Surgery is set to close in March and planning permission has been given to convert the surgery into homes.

A public meeting to discuss the issue will take place at 7.30pm in the Wimbledon Park Community Hall on Tuesday November 4.
