Wimbledon Set For Another Covered Court

Ambitious development scheme is unveiled

The All England Tennis Club has unveiled plans for another covered court, as well as increasing the prize money for this year's Championships.

The multi-million pound scheme will see a fixed, retractable, roof put over Court No 1 in time for the 2019 tennis fortnight.

The club have also announced two new entrances off Church Road, the expansion of the "Henman Hill" terraces, new indoor courts, new outdoor clay courts, a pedestrian tunnel under Somerset Road and the re-positioning of Courts 7, 11, 12 and 19.

It is seeking feedback on the whole plan, which also includes the realignment of practice courts and improvement of players' accommodation, before finalising the detail later this year.

And this year's men's and women's champion are set to collect £1.6m, as the overall prize pool increases by 40% to a total of £22.5m
