Two Merton Primary School Classes Are Confirmed

Meeting to discuss planned free school

Two extra reception school classes are going to be opened in Merton for this September to meet unprecedented demand for places.

The extra places will be at Joseph Hood School, rated 'Good' at its last Ofsted inspection, and West Wimbledon, last rated 'Outstanding'.

Merton council will be sending out a second round of offers to parents within the next fortnight which will include the 60 extra places provided by these two additional classes.

Yvette Stanley, Director of Children, Schools and Families, said: "To ensure children receive a local offer of a school place, we strongly advise parents and carers to contact the school admissions team and add extra schools to their preference list. If they do not do this, they risk not getting offered a place at a local school. Further advice to parents is on our website www.merton.gov.uk/admissions."

  • Plans for a new free school (Park Community School) to open for primary aged children in Tyndale House, at the south end of Dorset Road in Merton Park, in September 2015 will be discussed at an open meeting at Morden Baptist Church at 7.30pm on Monday (May 19).

The same charity (Chapel Street) is proposing to open a new secondary school in Merton, called Trinity High School, split across three sites.  It hopes to provide 1,100 places for 11–18 year-olds with a target opening date of September 2016.
