Distribution centre will create 190 jobs

Online supermarket retailer Ocado is to open a new distribution centre in Wimbledon, creating up to 190 jobs.

The two acre site, on Crown Estate land, will enable Ocado to make 14,200 weekly deliveries in south west London with a fleet of 60 vans.

Two existing warehouses, totalling 38,500 sq ft, are now being upgraded, with the site set to open in late May.

Tim Steiner, Chief Executive Officer of Ocado, said: "The new Wimbledon distribution spoke site will not only help us grow our customer base in south London but will free capacity at the existing Ocado sites in Weybridge and Dartford and enable them to grow further too.

"We are pleased to be extending our service in London and creating more local jobs. We remain as focused as ever on improving the customer offer, and delivering both service satisfaction and strong growth."

Stephen Hammond (left), MP for Wimbledon, added: "It is always good to have news of businesses moving into Wimbledon and especially as it will create almost two hundred new jobs. I welcome Ocado to Wimbledon."
