Make Lifestyle Changes With One You Merton

New scheme will provide local support to improve health and wellbeing

Adults in Merton are being encouraged to make lifestyle changes to improve their health and wellbeing with the support of the One You Merton initiative.

It provides local support for Merton residents who are trying to stop smoking, exercise more, lose weight, eat healthily, drink less alcohol and reduce stress.

Local health advisors will offer people face-to-face, phone or email support and the service is available everyday, from 7am-7pm.

The scheme has been launched by Merton Council in partnership with Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust (HRCH) and is linked to Public Health England’s national One You campaign.

The new One You Merton website brings together comprehensive information, guidance and top tips as well as links to local health services and sports activities. There is also a telephone helpline and details about smartphone apps designed to support residents who are making healthy lifestyle changes.

Merton Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, Councillor Tobin Byers, said: “One You Merton brings together all the support available across the borough in one place. This will help residents make informed choices about making healthy lifestyle changes and get any support they need to achieve their goals. Making small changes towards a healthier lifestyle can make a big difference to people’s health, reducing the risk of contracting serious illnesses in the future.”

HRCH Business Manager for One You Merton, Kulvinder Jhita said: “One You Merton is an exciting opportunity for us to support Merton residents to be healthier by providing trusted information and digital support, including mobile apps, which has been proven to work.”
