Open House Weekend In Wimbledon


A rare chance to look inside some local buildings

The annual Open House weekend, featuring properties all over London, takes place on September 19 and 20.

There will be 17 properties on show in Merton, including:

St Mary's Church, Church Path, Merton Park - Grade II listed gem of a country church built in 1115, celebrating its 900th anniversary this year. Guided talks and a Churchyard Trail, highlighting some of the exterior features of the church, and its surroundings. Tea and homemade cakes will be served throughout each afternoon. 

New Studios, Wimbledon College of Arts, Merton Hall Road  - an exemplar building of sustainable design, providing simple, flexible workspace for WCA.

New Wimbledon Theatre, 93 The Broadway - a striking Edwardian theatre with beautiful main auditorium in classic three tier design, seating 1,652.

106 Gladstone Road -  inside this unassuming Victorian house is a unique, contemporary total refurbishment with additional rear and roof extensions.

Baitul Futuh Mosque, 181 London Road - purpose built mosque and the largest in Europe, with 15m diameter dome and minarets 36m and 23m high, accommodating 13,000 worshippers.

Buddhapadipa Temple, 14 Calonne Road - complex of buildings on four acres of land with Buddhist Theravada temple in Thai style - one of only two outside Asia.

In central London, the properties open include HMRC's Custom House.
