Recital To Mark Church Organ's Return

Massive project nears its end

The completion of a mammoth project to repair the historic organ at Wimbledon's Sacred Heart Church will be marked with a "grand inaugural recital".

The organ (right), which is currently being re-built, is one of the finest parish church organs in Britain. It dates back to 1912 following a generous donation from a parishioner.

Although some changes were made to the organ in 1935, some cleaning and other restorative work done in the early 1970s, and in 1985 urgent repair work, it is now having work done that should ensure it lasts another 100 years.

To mark its return to the church in Edge Hill, a recital will be given by Oliver Latry, organist at Notre Dame in Paris, on at 8pm on Saturday May 28.

Free admission is by ticket only. For details tel: 01372-463592.
