Comedy Drama Is One Of Abbeyfest's Highlights

Phys Ed is one-man performance for two nights

Colour House Theatre at Merton Abbey Mills plays host to a critically-acclaimed one man comedy drama as part of Abbeyfest.

Up and Under meets Excalibur in Phys Ed, written and performed by Nottingham-based writer/actor Simon Carter on July 30 and 31.

Phys Ed was a hit at Manchester's 24-7 Theatre Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe where it was described by Edinburgh Three Weeks as "well-crafted, compelling and magnificently delivered; humorous, dramatic, sad and touching".

A King Arthur-obsessed PE teacher, living in the shadow of his England rugby international brother, goes for glory with his team of 12-year-old in this comedy romp through sibling rivalry, bed wetting, bullying and curiously hairy children.

Can Neville's team become national champions and win for him his own personal holy grail? Or will his fellow PE teacher and arch enemy Smithers shatter his dreams?

Simon Carter is an award-winning playwright and performer. His plays have won several Midlands regional drama awards and his comedy work has featured on national and regional radio - most recently in the sketch show The Show What You Wrote for BBC Radio 4.
