Men Bailed After Suspected Firearms Incident in Wimbledon


Armed police later discover the incident involved plastic toy guns

Detectives investigating suspected firearms being spotted in Wimbledon have bailed two men and revealed that the incident involved two toy guns.

The drama started around 8.55am on Tuesday when police were called to reports of a man seen in the Wimbledon area believed to be in possession of a firearm.

Local officers, armed officers and the British Transport Police attended Wimbledon Train Station to try to find the man. There were no reports of shots fired and no one was injured.

Officers later went to an address in the Lower Downs Road area of Wimbledon Chase at 10.45am. A 29-year-old man [A] was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and possession of a class B drug.

One 31-year-old man [B] was later in Kingston on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

It is not being treated as a terrorist-related incident, and the guns involved were plastic toy pistols.

  • The first man has been bailed on suspicion of a drug offence, while the second man has been bailed on suspicion of possessing a firearm.
