Polka Theatre Spring Season Is Underway

Young audiences will be entranced in Wimbledon

The Polka Theatre Spring season in Wimbledon is now well underway.

From 3 April – 23 May Polka presents the world premiere of Operation Magic Carpet for ages 6 - 11. This original play by Samantha Ellis transports an ordinary girl living in suburban London to Baghdad, where her parents are from. Characters from the Arabian Nights come to life as she meets Sinbad and swims the Tigris in a quest to explore cultural identity and discover her story.

Polka is also hosting an array of diverse and exciting shows in the Main Theatre. These include one man’s moving story about fatherhood, loss, heroes and hope; Big Red Bath (3 – 7 June), a colourful and soapy adaptation of the Julia Jarman book; The Bockety World of Henry and Bucket (10 – 14 June) a poetic new play from Barnstorm, one of Ireland leading children’s theatre companies; Puss in Boots (17 – 28 June), a classic adaptation from Cbeebies star Patrick Lynch; and STATIk (1 – 5 July), an energetic, physical comedy show from Action Transport Theatre.

For the May Half Term Polka welcomes theatre company La Baracca from Italy, with two stunning performances. The Cosmic Dancer (27 – 31 May) is a magical fairytale which combines stunning music, dance and projections and for younger audiences, Casa… Home (27 – 31 May) is a gentle and touching play performed in Italian and English about growing up.

Throughout the season Polka is hosting a variety of visiting shows in the Adventure Theatre for ages 0 – 7 and a full programme of holiday workshops and creative courses for children aged 3 – 13.
