Suspect dies after being found in prison cell
A man charged with rape and assault at parkland in Colliers Wood has later died after being found unconscious in his prison cell.
Mathan Vadivelalgan, aged 20, from Mitcham, had been charged after police investigated an incident near Victoria Road on Sunday June 8.
Mr Vadivelalgan had appeared in court, and was kept in custody at HMP Wandsworth until his next appearance.
But on Thursday June 12 he was found unconscious in his cell. He was taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting, where he was pronounced dead.
The Independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will be conducting an investigation.
