Raynes Park Man Accused Of Carrying Sawn-Off Rifle On Train

Police search also finds cannabis when they board London-bound train

A Raynes Park man is due to stand trial today (19 January) in Northampton accused of firearms and drug supply offences.

Tyrel Thompson, aged 20, is charged with possessing a shotgun without a certificate and possession with intent to supply cannabis.

Police were called to a train travelling between Birmingham and London on July 26 2016 following a report two people onboard were carrying weapons and drugs.

Officers boarded the train at Northampton and a search recovered a sawn-off rifle and a kilogram of cannabis with a street value of around £4,000.

Thompson and a 17-year-old boy were arrested at the scene. Thompson, of Kingston Road, Raynes Park, denies the offences and is due to appear before Northampton Crown Court later. The teenager, who is from Croydon and cannot be named due to his age, has previously pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing.
