Help Plant A Remembrance Woodland In Colliers Wood


In memory of the men who died in World War One

A Remembrance Woodland will be planted in Wandle Park to remember the men from Colliers Wood who died during the First World War.

The planting area has been prepared in the SW corner of Wandle Park - opposite the Burger King in the Priory Retail Park, and behind the Istanbul Restaurant.

Make Colliers Wood Happy will planting on the following dates - from 10am-4pm each day.

Friday April 17
Saturday April 18
Sunday April 19.

The Mayor of Merton will arrive at 10am on Saturday morning and we will be joined by local historian Diane Holmes. The children from Singlegate School will take part at 2pm on Friday.

Also invited are children from All Saints and Garfield Schools, the Merton Tree Wardens, Merton Friends of the Earth, Sustainable Merton and members of the Colliers Wood Residents Association

  • Diane Holmes, will be giving an illustrated talk about the 240 young men from Colliers Wood who died during the First World War, at the Donald Hope Library from 3.30pm on Saturday April 25. The event will be part of Merton Council's 50th anniversary celebrations.
