Sammy The Missing Squirrel Is Returned Home

He's a mascot for a Wimbledon school class

Sammy the missing squirrel has been reunited with his owners after he was found in Wimbledon.

Merton Police put out an appeal via social media on Sunday (April 24) after the fluffy toy was picked up in Queens Road.

He turned out to be a school mascot for Holy Trinity School in Effra Road, Wimbledon.

Earlier today he was reunited with James McDowell (see right), who lost Sammy. He is in a Year Two class named Squirrels, hence the mascot.

Merton Police said on their Facebook page: "Athough not a serious story and no man hours were wasted searching for Sammy, the class were very happy to have him returned.

"We do try and reunite as many people as we can with lost property, with items ranging from expensive to just emotionally attached."
