Save Our Thameslink Trains

Letter to the Editor:

"Merton's Thameslink commuters may find it more difficult to get to work in the future, following Network Rail proposals to cut the direct link between south London, the City and central London, known as the ‘Wimbledon loop’, after the Thameslink upgrade is completed in 2016.

"If the proposal goes ahead, trains would terminate at Blackfriars, leaving thousands of people without a direct service to Farringdon (for Crossrail), King's Cross, St Pancras International (for Eurostar) or stations to Luton.

"There are nine stations across Merton that would be affected by this proposal, and many people move here because of the transport links. As someone who uses the Thameslink service from Wimbledon Chase to Farringdon, the thought of trying to change at Blackfriars in rush hour, twice a day, fills me with dread.

"Liberal Democrats across south London have been campaigning against the plans - the department for transport consultation ends on August 23* "

* The end of the consultation has since been extended to September 14.
