Small Business Saturday In Wimbledon

Advice and help on hand in town centre

Merton Chamber of Commerce will be having a pop-up shop inside the foyer of Barclays Bank, Alexandra Road, Wimbledon, as part of Small Business Saturday.

They are asking people interested in setting up a business, or have just started in business to come along and visit them from 10am-2pm on December 7.

Emily Smith, of Tempting Cake, said: "Merton Chamber of Commerce offered me a range of services such as, the ability to connect me directly with other useful and relevant local businesses and the chance to attend start up and development workshops at no cost.

"They also offered free expertise business advice and a listing in their online business directory."

On offer will also be information and advice on all aspects of setting up business including finance, marketing, workshops to help you on your way and support to help you extend your business networks. You can also call the Chamber on 020 8619 0700, or email helpdesk@mertonchamber.co.uk.

Merton Council is also supporting the initiative and council leader Stephen Alambritis, a former business leader with the Federation of Small Businesses, will be serving shoppers at a number of small firms dotted around the borough throughout the day and will listen to customer feedback about their shopping experience in the area.

He will be serving the public in the following businesses on December 7:

• Rosy Lea Café, Morden at 8am-10am
• Coffee in the Wood, Colliers Wood at 11am-1pm
• Braiburn Motors, Mitcham at 2pm-4pm
• Whistle Stop Fish and Chips, Raynes Park at 5pm-7pm
• Chutneys Restaurant, Wimbledon at 8pm-10pm.

He said: "Local high streets and small businesses are a hub for our communities and research shows that every £1 spent with a local small business means that 63p is re-spent locally. I would encourage everyone to shop in our small businesses during the festive season, particularly on Small Business Saturday. As well as providing good service and value, our local small businesses are a lovely place to shop and offer great variety."
