South Wimbledon Car Crime Alert

Get free tamper-proof number plates

Police in South Wimbledon have warned there have been a spate of thefts from cars in the Abbey ward area this month.

They are urging motorists to ensure all items are removed from their vehicles, including coats, bags, sat navs and even loose change.

They also say number plates are being stolen from cars and then used to commit crimes in other vehicles. But the local police have got together with Halfords to arrange a free fitting of tamper-proof screws.

It takes place on Saturday February 18 (10am-4pm) at Halfords Auto Centre, Puma Industrial Estate, Morden Road, Mitcham.

The Abbey Safer Neighbourhoods Team are also providing free home security to help prevent burglaries and a property marking service and an appointment can be booked by phone or email. You can contact them at: 020 8649 3584 or Abbey@met.police.uk.

They are holding the following public surgeries this month: Abbey SNT Base, Pincott Road, South Wimbledon, Wednesday February 15, at 7pm; South Wimbledon Tube Station on Sunday February 26, at 2pm.
