Spamalot Will Help You Look On The Bright Side Of Life

Review: Hit musical will make you smile at New Wimbledon Theatre

You won't fail to 'look on the bright side of life' after a visit to Spamalot during its stay at the New Wimbledon Theatre.

The world-renowned musical, based on the 1975 movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail, is now on its third UK tour and stops off in Wimbledon until Saturday (November 25).

There's a loose plot based on King Arthur and his hapless medieval knights as they head for Camelot and then search for the Holy Grail.

Of course there are laughs right along the way, with the talented cast looking like they were enjoying every minute as well.

The stand-out performers for me were Norton James as Sir Galahad and Sarah Harlington as the Lady of the Lake. You soon started grinning each time they took to the forefront of the stage. Harlington, in particular, demonstrated she was an excellent singer.

The timing of the entire cast during the comic and dance routines was spot on throughout, and the show was rounded off with some glorious costumes and faultless music accompaniment.

The script has been slightly updated since the original version was a global hit, and there's a few local references that were a treat for the Wimbledon audience.

This really is a 'feel-good' musical, which non-Pythonites will also enjoy, and tonight's standing ovation was a deserving one.
