Wimbledon MP Loses His Ministerial Post

Stephen Hammond is sacked as Transport Minister

Wimbledon MP Stephen Hammond is no longer a Transport Minister after the reshuffle carried out by David Cameron on Monday (July 14).

Mr Hammond's replacement is Devizes MP Claire Perry, one of a number of women are in line for promotion.

The reshuffle also saw cabinet minister Ken Clarke, chief whip Sir George Young and Foreign Secretary William Hague leave their posts.

There was surprise about the sacking of Mr Hammond (left), who has represented Wimbledon since 2005. He has so far made no comment about the decision.

Mr Hammond has been a champion of the Crossrail 2 scheme which will create a second cross London network and a fast route into central London from Wimbledon.

He recently unveiled a £6m investment in the rail maintenance depot at Wimbledon.
