Teenager Dies After Being Found Ablaze In The Street


Cause of West Barnes tragedy is investigated

A teenage girl has died from severe burns after she was discovered on fire in the street in West Barnes.

Wimbledon and New Malden firefighters were called to the scene at 1.12am today (December 29), but when they arrived she was found on the road.

The girl, thought to be aged 18, was pronouced dead at the scene, near the level crossing at the junction with West Barnes Lane and Burlington Road.

She was later named as Rachel Osei, who was believed to have a four-year-old son called Kai. She was studying to be a PE teacher at St Mary's University in Twickenham.

There are reports that she was on fire when she ran out of a nearby property in Linkway. The cause of the blaze is being investigated by police and the fire brigade.
