K2 is king of the curries

Wimbledon Indian takeaway, K2, was crowned London Takeaway of the Year 2013 in the English Curry Awards.

K2 (left) in Durnsford Road was nominated by customers and passed an anonymous taste test by English Curry Award judges before being selected as finalists.

It beat off thousands of nominations to take the London title at the prestigious event in Manchester.

Owner Nasir Jilani (right), also a full-time firefighter in Tooting, said it was a fantastic achievement that he never dreamed of.

He said: "It was a shock just to be nominated let alone win the top award against some of the toughest competition in the country.

"It is a truly proud day for me, my family and our team. We would to thank our loyal customers for nominating us, without them it would not of been possible. We hope we have made Wimbledon proud!"

K2 is a family-run business, serving Indian food to the community since 1991.
